CORROSION PROTECTION IN OIL AND GAS INDUSTRY

This course will present and discuss the corrosion threats associated to application buried and submerged metallic structures, and application of Cathodic Protection as a corrosion mitigation technique.

The course delivers fundamentals of Cathodic Protection and Sacrificial and Impressed current techniques and their application buried and submerged metallic structures.

The design of Cathodic Protection Impressed current systems for corrosion mitigation in well casings will be presented and discussed. Interference with other structures will also be discussed and mitigation strategies presented.

The design of Cathodic Protection for well casings will be presented and discussed. Interference with other structures will also be discussed and mitigation strategies presented.

Cathodic Protection of systems applicable to surface facilities will be described and discussed. Requirements for designing a CP system. Elements of a CP system and monitoring techniques.

Course can be delivered

Online or, either in Class room in Client´s permisses or in Algarve Portugal

COURSE DURANTION: 3 days

LEVEL: Advanced

(The course can also be tailor made to fit the background of the audience, and

can be delivered at Foundation, Skill or Advanced level.)

TEACHING METHODS

The course can be delivered in the Classroom or Online, with the instructor providing explanation

of the concepts, presentation of case studies and practical situations.

THE BENEFITS FROM ATTENDING

The participants will be provided with an overview of the corrosion monitoring tools available, their principles and application, as well as limitations. At the end of the course, the attendees will have strengthened their capabilities to contribute to strengthen the asset integrity in their company, either in Upstream (onshore and offshore) and Downstream O&G environments.

INSTRUCTOR:

Gervasio Pimenta, is a PhD in Materials Engineering (New University of Lisbon) and a degree in Technological Chemistry (Fac Sciences, Univ Lisbon) and holds several NACE certifications, e.g. NACE Corrosion Specialist.

Technical Manager of a Materials and Corrosion Laboratory for 15years, was simultaneously Materials & Corrosion consultant for an International O&G Company. In this role, represented the O&G Company in shareholders technical meetings in the Middle East (Abu Dhabi, Oman) and Kazakhstan. For 7 years, performed as Corrosion Specialist in a major O&G NOC in the Middle East in Concept and FEED projects both downhole as well as pipelines and surface facilities, and EPC roles on behalf of end user.

Recently, worked as Materials and Corrosion Consultant for a major EPC company developing FEED for O&G projects, floating offshore wind turbines as well as refining Lithium, and corrosion consultant in a Refinery project, in Iraq.

He is an experienced Instructor delivering training in the field of Corrosion for both in-house and external audiences.
